  1. Eli Wallach's name in a box with the name of his character attached was how Eli who was a bigger movie star in America at the time than Clint, was given equal billing to Clint. Supposedly when your eyes look at the add you begin at the top and there is Clint Eastwood's name and as you move down that box draws your eyes down to Eli's name thus equal billing. The Towering Inferno did it differently. Steve McQueen was billed first but Paul Newman's name was just to the right of Steve's name but elevated higher than Steve McQueen. Both actors were getting top billing in the movies for a number of years and this is how they solved which one would get second. McQueen made it clear he wouldn't be the one and Paul went along with this arrangement to attempt to give both the top spot.
