Streaming Review - The Perfect Killer (Tubi)

Now streaming on Tubi (ad supported free streaming service), is the hard to find 1977 crime thriller The Perfect Killer.  Currently not available on blu-ray or DVD in the US, the only version I've been able to find was an old VHS copy from 30 years ago.  This is a significant upgrade over that.

VIDEO:

This presentation of the film is the uncut longer international version (approximately 5 minutes longer than the US cut). Any scene that was not part of the 92 minute US version will not be in English, but will feature Italian with no subtitles.

Quality is roughly that of a standard definition DVD.  Not sure where this was sourced from, but would love to find a non-streaming version. 

The widescreen presentation is a vast improvement over the previous US release  (available streaming to rent or buy on Amazon).  Comparisons below-

AUDIO:

The audio is in English only (aside from the extended international bits), and not of the best quality.  The film does feature a fantastic score.

IN CONCLUSION:

Probably the best version of the film quality-wise to-date.  

THE GOOD:

• Streaming platform forces 1.5 minutes of ads every 15 minutes

Blu-ray Review - Beyond The Law (Spain)

 

New from Spain by Mon Inter, comes a new release of Beyond the Law on Blu-ray.  This movie never gets the respect it deserves, and this blu-ray release does not do it full justice, but is an improvement over the German disc.  This appears to be an all region disc, however it is a BD-R disc, so it may be

troublesome for some players (it took me a few tries to get it to play)

VIDEO:

This presentation of the film is the uncut longer version (approximately 20 minutes longer than the US cut) That being said, it is a hybrid cut, likely sourced from the uncut DVD by Wild East, and the German blu-ray of the cut version.  Any scene that was not part of the 90 minute version is from an upscaled DVD, so there are constant jumps in quality between the two sources.

Overall the HD video is less detailed than the German release, but not by a wide margin.

The audio is available in Spanish, Italian, and English.  English audio is available for any scenes that were dubbed in English.  There are a handful of scenes that were never dubbed in English and they are in Italian (with no subtitles)

Probably the best version of the film quality-wise to-date.  Basically just think of it as the old uncut DVD with HD footage laid over the US cut parts of the film (90 minutes of 110).

Beyond the Law - Coming to Blu-ray (Spain)

 

Released this week in Spain, not much is known about this release, but it appears to be a budget title, so I don't expect much.  It is rumored to have English audio.  I have placed my order and will review here once it arrives.  Hopefully it is better than the German release.
