GBU50: Rare Photos - Lunch with Blondie

This is part 5 of a 6 part series of a rare The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly photo series.  These rarely seen photos are originally from the collection of Edoardo Ezio Pizzi, the man who handled all publicity and press relations for Unidis and Jolly Films.

This particular sequence was cut from the film.  It looks to happen after Blondie and Angel Eyes leave Battersville, but before they are joined by Angel Eye's men.  This was prominently featured on one of the original lobby cards.

Location: Cortijo Sotillo - El Viento Interior

I previously reported on Cortijo Sotillo in reference to it's use in Day of Anger, but at the time I had not realized it was also used in Death Rides a Horse.  The location is of course most famously known as "the small house" in A Fistful of Dollars.

The finale of Death Rides a Horse takes place in the fictional town of El Viento.  The exteriors of this town were filmed in Tabernas, however this particular interior was shot in at Cortijo Sotillo in San Jose

Below is a comparison of roughly the same shot from Death Rides a Horse and Day of Anger (click to enlarge)

Today Cortijo Sotillo is a hotel.  The familiar main structure is now the restaurant and bar.  While the building has been restored, it still retains it's original look.

Location: Tabernas - Town of El Viento

The area known as Las Salinillas within the Spanish desert of Tabernas has been featured in countless Spaghetti Westerns, and many LVC westerns including The Big Gundown, Death Rides a Horse, Beyond the Law, and Sabata

In Death Rides a Horse, this area was the location of the town of El Viento.  The town was a set built specifically for westerns, although I am not sure if it was specifically built for Death Rides a Horse.

While the structures are long gone, the location itself remains very much the same today nearly 50 years later.
