Many may not know and maybe it wasn't true but...I clearly remember reading in an article about Guiliano Gemma in one of the showbiz papers, maybe Variety, that "Day of Anger" was the highest grossing western ever released in Italy surpassing even the Leone films which were blockbusters in Italian cinema. And Gemma was one of Italy's biggest stars. I saw the film when it debuted in the U. S. in 1969 and Lee had star billing on the theater marquee and all the posters and lobby cards on the front of the theater. So I was stunned when the movie began and Lee did not have top billing.
