Blu-ray Review: Beyond The Law (Germany)
New from Germany by Dolphin Media, comes the worldwide debut of Beyond the Law on Blu-ray. This movie never gets the respect it deserves, and this blu-ray release does not do it justice. This is a Region B (Europe) disc, and cannot be played on a Region A (US) player.
Before diving in, to be clear, this is a German language only disc, and it is the cut version of the film (89 minutes).

VIDEO:
The transfer is an obvious improvement over the 20 year old widescreen DVD. Colors are somewhat muted, and the picture is overall washed out in certain scenes. The image itself is slightly soft, while the film grain is strong. Likely the print used was one a few generations from the original negative. Image does appear to be slightly cropped versus the DVD.

AUDIO:
The audio is available in German only. No subtitles.
EXTRAS:
Very lackluster. Especially disappointing is the image gallery made up of frame grabs from blu-ray presentation of the movie.
- German trailer
- Image Gallery (still frames taken from the film and set to music)
IN CONCLUSION:I would recommend this for LVC completists only. Hopefully one day an English friendly uncut HD version of this often overlooked film will be made available. Until then, this is the version that will give you the highest quality image resolution of the film.
THE GOOD:
Good picture quality
THE BAD:
No English Cut version (89 minutes here vs 110 minutes uncut) Region B locked

VHS Flashback: Day of Anger
Before streaming, blu-ray, and DVD, most LVC films were only available on home video cassette tapes, usually VHS (but also Betamax). Many of us discovered these films for the first time in these formats (usually cropped and edited).
Often times due to rights issues, these films were given new titles (some similar to the original, some not). Often the cover image of LVC was not from the actual film!
Here is a look back at the old VHS LVC video covers for Day of Anger!
