He gave Lee a couple of lines but Lee said he said something like "Please. I've gone this far without saying a word. If I open my mouth now it will destroy my character. I was playing it 'the silent & mysterious type'... and Fred decided he agreed. So the only racket I make in that film other than gunfire, is playing the harmonica". I recall this from Lee's interview with Johnny Carson while promoting The Master. But when the interview was on YouTube, I didn't see it but I did see the part I remembered when Lee turned to Tony Bennett & said "I really liked that last note" and Johnny said "Well then you can have it".
